Festive Spiced Apple Wine

By Jo Pratt

Warm, cozy, and beautifully spiced, this festive apple wine is pure winter comfort

Serves: 6

Tools Used:

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle white wine
  • 400ml cider or apple juice
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 2 star anise
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 100g demerara sugar
  • 1 orange
  • 1 apple

Method:

  1. Put the wine, cider, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves and sugar in a large saucepan. Place the pan over a medium heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved and continue to heat for about 10 minutes until all of the flavours are infused. Make sure you don't allow the wine to boil, otherwise, you will lose all of the alcohol!
  2. In the meantime, peel thick strips of orange zest with the 2-in-1 zester. Twist each one around a wooden spoon handle or a chopstick to create a coil shape. Hold for a few seconds and set aside.
  3. Remove the core from the apple with an apple corer, and cut it into thin rounds, preferably with a crinkle cut knife.
  4. Ladle the spiced apple wine into glasses and finish each one with a slice of apple and twist of orange.

Tip:

Don’t just save the orange twists for cocktails and festive drinks - they are a brilliant all-round garnish. Scatter them over cakes, desserts, and puddings for a zesty sparkle, or add a few to a cheeseboard with nuts for a touch of citrusy flair and colour.

To store, keep fresh twists in an airtight container in the fridge for a couple of days, or dry them completely and store in a sealed jar for weeks of easy, ready-to-go garnish magic.
